Welcome from the Sensational Southern Maryland Teens.

My name is Brielle Wheeler, and I am the 2020/2021 President for the Southern Maryland teens. The sensational Southern Maryland Teen Chapter is a dynamic group of 29 teenagers from across three counties in Southern Maryland – Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s. We are a group of highly academic, athletic, musical, and creative students which includes two academic award winners from the 2020 Teen Eastern Regional Conference. We are the winners of the 2020 Teen Regional Awards for Best Banner and Best Scrapbook competitions. Some of us have been in Jack and Jill for over ten years, and many are children of legacy moms. We firmly believe in the fundamental principles of Jack and Jill of America’s Eastern Region’s 2019-2021 theme of empowering families for success.

The unprecedented pandemic has created a new world for us. It has forced us to be a little more creative and think outside of the box while still striving to live up to our Jack and Jill mission. Although we are not able to have in-person meetings and events, we still find ways to move forward together, learning new things and having fun together. We find ourselves doing things a little different – spending a lot of time on Zoom calls while continuing to have fun and establishing meaningful relationships with our Jack and Jill brothers and sisters.

Under the leadership of the President of our Southern Maryland Chapter, Mother Lesley Quattlebaum, the teens strive to seek opportunities to make an impact with intention. Our efforts during this programming year will include a virtual retreat, a virtual read-a-thon and a module-palooza during which we will complete the Jacqueline Moore Bowles Leadership modules. We will also provide support to our community partner for the year – Project ECHO – by providing school supplies and financial support through our fundraising efforts. Project ECHO is a homeless shelter that provides emergency shelter and housing support to people experiencing homelessness in Calvert County, Maryland.
